October 24 — Pay Attention to Patterns
Verse: Matthew 7:16
“By their fruit you will recognize them.”
A single moment does not always tell you everything about someone.
Patterns tell you much more.
Pay attention to consistency.
How does someone behave under pressure?
How do they respond after they make a mistake?
Do their actions match their promises?
Do they accept responsibility?
Do they treat people well when there is nothing to gain?
And apply the same questions inwardly.
Character is not revealed through perfection.
It is revealed through repeated direction.
Do not ignore patterns simply because you prefer someone's potential.
And do not condemn someone because of one imperfect moment either.
Ask God for balanced discernment.
Wisdom pays attention to both grace and patterns.
Prayer:
Father, help me see people and situations clearly. Keep me from being naive, but also keep me from becoming judgmental. Give me discernment to recognize healthy and unhealthy patterns.
