Ephesians 2:9 — The Gift of Grace
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
Salvation is not earned; it is received. Human nature wants to prove worthiness, but grace removes boasting. We come to God not because we are good enough but because He is merciful. This truth brings both humility and relief — humility because we cannot claim credit, and relief because acceptance does not depend on perfection.
A student who failed repeatedly thought he had no chance to succeed. A teacher, however, personally helped him learn step by step. His eventual success came not from his ability but from the teacher’s help. Similarly, our relationship with God begins with His initiative, not our performance.
Grace frees us from the pressure to earn love.
Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for saving me by grace. Help me rely on Your mercy rather than my efforts. Keep my heart humble and grateful for the gift I could never earn. Amen.
