But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Good Friday reveals both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God’s love. Jesus did not suffer for His own wrongdoing but for ours. The cross shows that forgiveness was not cheap — it was costly. Christ carried guilt, shame, and separation so we could receive peace with God. The nails were placed in His hands, yet they were driven by our brokenness.
Imagine someone paying a debt you could never repay. The relief would be overwhelming. That is what the cross declares: our spiritual debt was carried by Christ. His wounds became our healing — healing from guilt, from condemnation, from separation from God. Good Friday is sorrowful because of the suffering, yet hopeful because of the love behind it.
At the cross, justice and mercy met together.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for bearing my sin on the cross. Help me never take Your sacrifice lightly. Fill my heart with gratitude and peace because of what You have done for me. Amen.
