Matthew 13:16
Jesus spoke these words after telling parables that many heard, yet few truly understood. The crowds listened with their ears, but their hearts remained distracted. Jesus points out something important: spiritual sight is not automatic. It is a gift given to those who are open, attentive, and willing.
In real life, we often hear without listening. A parent may speak to a child who is glued to a screen—the words enter the ear but never reach the heart. In the same way, God may be speaking while our minds are occupied with worries, plans, noise, and constant information. Distraction dulls perception.
God rarely shouts. He whispers. He speaks through Scripture, through gentle conviction, through quiet nudges in the heart. Those who rush through life often miss what God is revealing, while those who slow down begin to see and hear clearly.
Jesus calls such people “blessed.” Not because they are smarter, but because they are attentive. Spiritual understanding grows where humility and stillness are practiced.
Reflection:
Are there distractions in your life that may be dulling your ability to hear and see what God is revealing?
Prayer:
Lord, quiet my heart and mind. Remove distractions that block my spiritual vision. Open my eyes to see and my ears to hear what You are speaking today. Amen.
